Engineered and manufactured in Austria, the OC818 is Austrian Audio’s premier, professional, large diaphragm microphone. Its high sensitivity, low self-noise and ability to handle everything from a whisper to extreme SPLs make it an advanced microphone for studio, broadcast and live applications. Dual outputs let you record each diaphragm separately.
As the unique ceramic capsule design is so consistent, any OC818 is match-paired with any other OC818, and when in cardioid mode, it can also be match-paired with any OC18, its affordable, smaller sibling.
Dual Membrane Mode and PolarDesigner
The second output on the rear side of the microphone can deliver the signal of the back membrane, while you get the front capsule from the regular XLR plug. Just plug in the OCC8 mini XLR cable supplied with your OC818, and set the polar pattern switch to the position showing the 2 cardioids. The OC818 will now work in dual mode, with both capsule membranes being transmitted independently. In dual mode, you may record the two signals to two tracks and use Austrian Audio’s PolarDesigner plugin later to modify the polar pattern in post-production. PolarDesigner even lets you choose the polar pattern for up to five different frequency bands.
The OC818 Mic System: Add the optional OCR8 Bluetooth dongle
Austrian Audio offers the optional OCR8 Remote Control Module for wireless control of your OC818 via smart device. This dongle plugs on to your mic, adding Bluetooth connectivity via phantom power. Download Austrian Audio’s PolarPilot app for iOS or Android to control polar patterns, pads, and high pass-filters in real time — an easy way to shoot out settings from your listening position! Discover and create 255 discrete polar patterns of your own, and store a custom setting on board the OC818 for use without the PolarPilot app. There’s even a 60-second clipping monitor/logger for your OC818 — useful when determining a pad setting for live situations. The OC818 is always pure analogue: only the analogue bias voltages are being governed remotely. Switching also is always analogue. There’s no digital in either the audio or bias paths — it’s everything you want, with none of what you don’t. Revolutionize your workflow with wireless control from the comfort of your chair.
