The Moog Grandmother semi-modular analog synthesizer had us at “built-in spring reverb,” and there is plenty more creative potential here than meets the eye. You can start playing and designing sounds immediately — no patching required. The onboard arpeggiator and sequencer are a blast to play with, and you can even save three sequences for instant recall anytime. And with its 32-note Fatar keybed, the Grandmother is one of the best-feeling compact analog synths you’ll find. Whether you need it for stage or studio, the Moog Grandmother offers a fresh take on the classic Moog synth sound.
Classic Moog architecture
The colorful interface on the Moog Grandmother makes its lineage clear. You have easy access to dual analog oscillators, each with triangle, saw, and square waves. You can add noise at the oscillator mixer stage, and a utility section features a patchable 1-pole highpass filter and a bipolar attenuator. The classic 4-pole ladder filter offers a convenient key-tracking switch and large controls that are easy to find even in the dark. An analog LFO and ADSR envelope generator complete the onboard modulation options — and synthesists at Sweetwater have come to love the dedicated fader to control envelope sustain.
Built-in spring reverb for unique sound design capabilities
Spring reverb has a unique character, with impressive sonic depth and vibrance. If you’ve played with a real spring reverb unit, you know that it’s difficult to find digital emulations that come close to the real thing. And that’s why Moog packed a real analog spring reverb into the Grandmother. It sounds fantastic and offers creative potential never before found on a Moog analog synthesizer.
All the connectivity
Right out of the box, the Moog Grandmother is ready to play, no patching necessary. For your Eurorack rig, Mother-32, DFAM, or other modular synthesizers, you’ve got a total of 41 patch points including 21 inputs, 16 outputs, and a 4-jack passive mult. You’ve got DIN MIDI in, out, and thru ports, plus USB MIDI for computer connectivity. Basically, you’re ready to integrate with any modern production workflow.
